Quick Reference Guide: Application Process & Required Documentation
STEPS TO APPLY
1. Understand Eligibility
Ensure you meet the general and programme-specific eligibility requirements. More information is available on the IAAC Website
2. Prepare Documents
Gather the required information and supporting documents (see the list and tips below).
3. Select Your Programme
Navigate to the “Find Programmes” section in this applications portal and choose the programme you wish to apply for.
4. Start Your Application
Click “Apply Now!” to begin.
5. Complete the Sections
The application is divided into multiple sections. You can save your progress as you proceed.
6. Submit Required Tasks on the checklist
Ensure all required tasks are completed before submission. Answer each task based on your specific situation.
7. Pay the Application Fee
Complete your application by paying the €50 processing fee via Flywire. An invoice with payment details will be available in the “Finances” section of the portal. Once payment is confirmed, you can submit your application.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS & INFORMATION
Statement of Motivation
The Statement of Motivation (or Letter of Intent) should outline your reasons for applying and how your background aligns with your chosen programme. This document must:
- Be written in English (or Spanish for Maestría en Urbanismo Próximo (MaUP)).
- Be 400–1000 words in length.
Tips:
-Explain why you are a strong candidate and how the programme will help you achieve your goals.
-Highlight relevant skills, experience, knowledge, and qualities that align with the research field.
-Save your draft locally before uploading it to the application form.
Design Portfolio or Sample Work (PDF, A4, max 10MB)
Your Portfolio should showcase academic or professional work relevant to your application.
Note: A design portfolio is optional for non-design applicants. However, relevant samples (e.g., projects, research, publications) are required.
Two Letters of Recommendation
Provide two (2) references from academic or professional sources.
Applicants may:
- Request an anonymous recommendation via the application form:
Enter the referee’s contact details (name and email), and the system will send them a private link to upload their letter. - Upload a copy of existing recommendation letters:
This option is for applicants who already have valid letters of recommendation.
Tips:
-Contact your referees before providing their email addresses to ensure they are informed of your request.
-Allow ample time for referees to prepare their recommendations. Your application will not be complete until both letters are received.
CV (Curriculum Vitae)/Resume (PDF, A4, max 10MB)
Your CV should be drafted in English (or Spanish for Maestría en Urbanismo Próximo (MaUP)).
Tips:
-Include details of employment history, professional experience, volunteering, university activities and relevant projects.
-Clearly indicate the start and end dates of your education, work, and research experiences.
Scanned Copy of Bachelor’s Diploma (PDF or JPEG, A4, max 10MB)
Notes:
-If you have not yet graduated, you can provide a provisional transcript or certificate from your institution confirming your upcoming graduation.
-For joint Bachelor’s + Master’s programmes, upload the corresponding diploma.
Scanned Copy Passport (PDF or JPEG, A4, max 10MB)
Notes:
-Spanish citizens may upload a copy of their DNI card.
-Ensure your passport is valid and check its expiry date.
OPTIONAL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS & INFORMATION
- Certificate of English Proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambride or similar)
Applicants do not need to submit an English proficiency certificate for their application. Their language skills will be assessed during the admissions interview. However, if the applicant is in possession of such certificate, they are welcome to upload it
- Activities
Applicants may optionally share relevant extracurricular activities, such as volunteering, hobbies, or organizational roles.
