Overview
The Master in City & Technology (MaCT) redefines the future of the urban, through innovative, evidence based and experimental approaches to understand, design and materialise cities.
MaCT develops cutting-edge tools, designs and approaches to effectively operate in the context of planetary scale urbanisation, the climate change crisis and rapid technological development.
Taking place in Barcelona, the capital of urbanism, MaCT is a platform to shape multidisciplinary leaders empowered to pioneer the transition of the urban environment in the era of big data, towards resilient & circular cities, inclusive and just communities and adaptive and more than human urban environments.
Rooted in the agenda of MaCT is the ambition of reducing the distance between education, research and practice, the program is therefore conceived as a platform to apply innovative ideas to real-world problems.
Programme structure
The programme follows IAAC’s learn-by-doing methodology, where students develop interdisciplinary skills through hands-on experiences in design and research. Participants collaborate in a dynamic international group of faculty, researchers, and experts, fostering collective decision-making and materialising their project ideas.
MaCT one-year is structured across three terms, where students engage in theoretical courses, masterclasses, and real-world applications led by experts in the field. Each term is mandatory and focuses on key urban design themes:
